Big Queer Photo

The Big Queer Photo (BQP) is a cherished annual event at the University of Maryland, hosted by the LGBTQ+ Equity Center and co-sponsored by many campus offices, departments, and student organizations. Since its inception in May 2024, the BQP has become a significant tradition, uniting students, faculty, and staff to capture a moment of collective support and solidarity. This event underscores our community's commitment to building a culture of care and inclusivity at UMD. Each spring, campus community members register in advance to participate, with involvement steadily increasing each year. This growing participation reflects the expanding network of support and inclusion at UMD, highlighting our community's dedication to fostering an inclusive environment. Participants sign the BQP banner and partake in a community picnic with diverse food options. The event also offers an opportunity to provide feedback through the LGBTQ+ Equity Center Community Check-in Survey, informing future programs and resources.
